Welcome

This summer I have been given the amazing opportunity to travel with Northpoint Community Church to Capetown, South Africa for a mission trip. We will be serving this upcoming July working with kids living in poverty and hosting a retreat for the student ministry of a partner church in Capetown. I have felt a calling from God for some time to serve in a big way and I believe this is it. Words can not begin to describe how I feel about this trip. I just can’t even begin to comprehend this experience so I have decided that from the beginning, I am writing it down. Documenting the whole experience from start to finish, and I figure if anybody else wants to follow it I will share this as a blog.

Basically, my previous mission experience has been on 2 trips with my family to Costa Rica. One when I was relatively young (maybe like freshman year), and another one this previous summer. These trips were absolutely amazing and every part of them have been life changing, but honestly being family trips there was an extreme pressure if not obligation to go.  I also knew that my parents would be there for all the details. They would make sure my forms were turned in, I got my passport, etc, and as far as money that was taken care of mostly by them and there adult friends with real jobs and real money. Basically, there was a safety net. As I began thinking about that and this trip I really began to realize, what really is mine to account for?  I mean I am 17 years old. In 7 months I will be living on my own with my own life. So basically I am stepping out on ledge without mommy and daddy’s net and letting God “take the wheel” I guess and just trust that He will be with me. And, so, it begins…

As I begin I would appreciate all prayers and support for me and my team and hope that you will follow me as I start taking the steps in this journey
